The Below Information Has Been Provided From Our Gun Caliber Dictionary And Is Meant For Informational Purposes Only. It Is Not Intended to Describe The Unique Specifications For This Ammunition.
Introduced in 2000, the 376 Steyr was developed by Hornady and Steyr with input from gunwriter Jeff Cooper, who envisioned it as the ideal cartridge for his "big bore scout rifle." Case length is 2.3622 inches, and although not as powerful as the 375 H&H it is fully adequate for game up to Cape buffalo. Hornady's factory loads feature a light-recoiling 225-grain load and a 270-grain load, both at 2600 feet per second (to maintain similar point of impact). The 376 Steyr has not been popular, but actually has value as a lighter-recoiliing cartridge than the 375 H&H, with the capability to be housed in lighter rifles. —
