The Below Information Has Been Provided From Our Gun Caliber Dictionary And Is Meant For Informational Purposes Only. It Is Not Intended to Describe The Unique Specifications For This Ammunition.
The 375 Winchester was introduced in 1978 in a beefed-up "big-bore" version of the Winchester Model 1894. With a straight 2.020-inch case it is visually similar to the old 38-55 blackpowder cartridge, but is actually the 30-30 case necked up with most body taper removed. The 375 Winchester is considerably more powerful than the 38-55; Winchester's current factory load uses a 200-grain bullet at 2200 feet per second, yielding 2150 foot-pounds of energy. As such the 375 Winchester must not be compared to other 375 cartridges like the 375 H&H, but it is a fine close-range cartridge for black bear and even elk and moose in timber. Despite merit the 375 Winchester never became popular. No current firearms are chambered to it and Winchester offers the only factory load. —
