The Below Information Has Been Provided From Our Gun Caliber Dictionary And Is Meant For Informational Purposes Only. It Is Not Intended to Describe The Unique Specifications For This Ammunition.
The 370 Sako Magnum (9.3x66mm) is based on the 30-06 case necked up to take a 9.3mm (.366-inch) bullet, but with a relatively short neck to maximize powder capacity. Introduced in Finland in 2002 as the 9.3x66, it was reintroduced by Federal in 2010 as the 370 Sako Magnum, a joint project between Federal and Sako. With a 286-grain bullet at 2550 feet per second, it produces 4250 foot-pounds of energy, thus is actually very close to the 375 H&H in performance--but in a 30-06-length action, with lighter and more compact ammunition. The 9.3mm is a standard European counterpart to the 375 with several popular cartridges, but this bullet diameter is less common in the U.S. and the 370 Sako, despite merit, has not yet caught on. Adequate for the largest game, it has been used on Cape buffalo and, with solid bullets, on elephant with no issues. Federal offers the only factory ammunition and Sako has remained the primary manufacturer of 370 Sako rifles. —
